Mia Gaudenzi is a Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patient who was diagnosed when she was four. Since then she has tackled the challenges of living with chronic and sensitive respiratory disease like CF. Mia’s inspiring commitment to better understanding and managing her condition on a daily basis is evident in her statement to us “Due to Cystic Fibrosis, I require twice daily physiotherapy and treatments to better manage my disease. I wake up, take my oral and inhaled treatments and perform physiotherapy to clear and open up my lungs and airways. I try to get in as much exercise I can during the day and perform the same treatment/physio treatments at night”. She highlights the effort and dedication it takes to keep her lungs in peak condition to complete daily tasks and improve her quality of life.
Meeting with IoT based Technology
We celebrate with Mia, though, the current state of health she is in. “I am currently taking very little medication to manage my disease but I feel like I’m at a great point in my life, health wise” she tells Inofab Health. Her first home-use spirometer - SpiroHome - has enabled her to monitor her lung health condition at home. Thus her clinical CF care team can track her current health situation remotely and guide or intervene based on the status of her lung parameters. This give Mia and other patients like her an opportunity to stay ahead of the health and avoid unnecessary hospital visits or hospitalisations. This is particularly important in the current COVID-19 climate which poses a greater risk for more vulnerable CF patients.
Mia had previously never used an IoT-based product and yet she finds SpiroHome very easy to use. According to her “the clear instructions for setup and use makes the SpiroHome Personal app very user-friendly”. She feels confident in completing accurate tests by herself at home and sharing the results with health professionals.
When we asked her about the best feature of the product, she said it was the ability of the device to store and compare her lung data over different time points. She adds in her social media posts about SpiroHome that she recommends SpiroHome for being well-designed and easy-to-use.
As Inofab Health Team we are thankful to Mia for sharing her story and inspiring our CF community! We hope that SpiroHome solutions continue to add value to respiratory patients' lives.
